What Drives the Cost of a Business Website?
A useful website estimate starts with a shared scope. Two sites with the same page count can require very different amounts of work.
Content and page structure
Count distinct page types as well as pages. A simple service page can reuse a layout; a searchable directory needs different design and development. Note whether text, images and logos are ready and approved. Writing, photography preparation and accessibility work need explicit owners.
Behavior and integrations
A contact form, booking service, payment flow and customer account system each add different requirements. Identify the exact tools and what data passes between them. Include recurring vendor charges in your comparison, but confirm them directly with the provider.
Replacing an existing site
Inventory important URLs, useful content and current integrations. A migration may need redirects, content cleanup and verification that forms still work. Keep functioning pages when there is no clear reason to replace them.
Questions for a comparable proposal
- Which pages and features are included?
- Who supplies and approves the content?
- What revision and acceptance process is included?
- Who owns the domain, files and accounts?
- What ongoing charges and maintenance responsibilities remain?
Use the answers to compare scope before comparing totals. Request a project-specific estimate rather than treating this guide as a quote.
